These are some things that we thought might be useful for travelers to know;
Airport transfer
On arrival we went to the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) kiosk where they provided us with tickets for 2 adults for c: HKD72 to take the Airport Express rail link to the city centre. It is fast and efficient and saves money instead of taking the tourist coaches.
We also bought 2 Octopus cards and loaded them up with about HKD300 to cover the 4 days we would be there. Use an On-loan card which you physically return at the airport and they will refund your money minus and $10 admin fee. You simply badge in and out on rail, ferries and buses for the duration of your stay.
SIM and eSIM – We used SoSim whilst in Hong Kong. I downloaded the prepaid QR code and installed whilst in the UK. Once in Hing Kong I switched to that eSIM channel (under Mobile Services configuration on the phone) and all worked well. It saves on any roaming charges that your UK provider will charge you.
All cafes and restaurants take credit cards, except for one so a bit of spare cash can come in handy.
There seemed to be a lack of facilities when running large events like the fireworks. Toilets were very few and far between.
